Breaking cover

We’ve been quiet for a while so we thought we’ll share a couple of our ideas to give you an idea of what we’re working towards: a realign of the interface that drives the app.

Categories: Development and Features

Let’s make things discoverable, manageable and enjoyable.

The latest, still-to-be-released version of Tank is even simpler and cleaner than before, and we use colour more aggressively to indicate certain actions and states. The interface consists of enclosing ‘sheaths’ which demarcate interface areas: the canvas, the sidebar and navigational areas. We’ve dropped a couple of other aspects: buttons have been replaced with old-school underlined links, fonts have been made slightly bigger in certain areas, and there has been a lot more time spent on individual screens: the sitemap, the post and photo listings, and all the different edit screens.

The drive has been to firstly bring things forward: tons of previously ‘hidden’ variables and features are now more obvious and discoverable. Secondly, we’ve focused on adding stuff: you can now add almost anything from anywhere, quickly and easily.

Lastly we’ve been geared towards making the overall experience more fun: content-management and site-building can be a rather dry exercise and we reckon it should be interesting and enjoyable instead. We want you to enjoy putting your sites together, and we want you to return to the app to continue building up your site. We are already there in certain aspects, but this version takes it further.

Stay tuned, the new version is on the way.
