Page navigation is now simpler and in context

As you can see from the before-detail the currently selected page (the bold one) appears relatively far down the sidebar, making it hard to identify the relationship to what you are currently editing. Besides that rendering the entire page tree isn’t entirely necessary: on a specific level you need to see where you are and who surrounds you, as you’d be most likely to move between levels as opposed to jumping up and down levels, while working towards ensuring consistency across your content.

A new sidebar for managing a page

It is now easier and quicker to navigate between immediate parent, sibling and child pages, in particular for those who have many pages. Vertical space is saved making it possible to see the bigger picture more readily from almost any view.

Post categorisation is now easier and on-the-fly

The recent design changes of the edit screen left us with an unforeseen issue: where to list categories while editing a post. It didn’t feel elegant to list categories in the same editing schema as the primary content of a post, and besides the sidebar was under-utilised in this view.

A new sidebar for categorising a post

Both these issues were solved by relocating the category assigment into the sidebar of the post edit screen. Interestingly enough this created immediate synergy between the post listing and post editing, and the movement and management between these modes are now almost seamless and more natural.

Another improvement is that you can now add categories ‘inline’; bringing this aspect up-to-date with what happens elsewhere in the app when data needs to be entered ‘on the fly’. Finally the introduction of post counts alongside a category makes it easy to identify and remove unused categories should that be a requirement.

We hope you find these changes useful and of value during the work-flow of building and managing your site.
