We recently finished the first beta version of an “Edit this” extension for Firefox. It is a browser toolbar button that highlights when you’re visiting a Tank site - click the button and Firefox will open a tab jumping to the edit screen for that specific piece of content. In a nutshell it means you can easily switch to the edit screen for any Tank site you have access to.
Help us test it by installing edithis.xpi - now restart Firefox, right-click on the toolbar (the part of the window that contains the buttons and the address bar), click “Customize..”, and drag the “Edit this” button to where you want it. You might have to restart Firefox after you do this for the button to work properly. If you’re not logged into Tank clicking the button will send you along to the relevant URL after logging in.

On this side we are already finding the extension useful to quickly jump between viewing live content and the appropriate edit screen; in particular for sites with tons of content, and even more so for users who manage multiple sites.

This sounds fantastic, but why is firefox preventing me from installing software from the site?

You'll need to figure out the exact error (check the message) and Google it. It's a standard extension and I'm sure you'll find a solution to your issue.
The simplest way of installing edithis is to download it from here, then in Firefox open the File menu, go to Open File & click on the edithis.xpi file you have downloaded, and Firefox will install it for you quite easily.
